The Winter Walking Event of the Christian Rambling Club (CRC) usually takes place annually during the half term week in February at a venue in the Scottish Highlands.

Torridon, North West Scotland, in 2001 was followed by Cairngorm in 2002.

This year the event was organised in Lochaber allowing access to Glen Coe and the Ben Nevis area.

Each Winter Walking Event has taken on a different character according to the participants; the locality; the weather; the quantity and condition of the snow; and the number of guides.  Each year guide(s) have been hired from The Rock Outdoor Adventures.

In 2003 we had 6 members booked on the event and so we booked one guide (the maximum ratio being 1 to 6).  However Chris Ensoll, our guide, was able to persuade some other guides working towards their Winter ML and Mountain Instructor Certificate qualifications to join us so that they were able to log additional mountain days with groups while benefiting from his instruction and advice.

The outcome was that with a low ratio of 1 to 3 the week took on a different  'flavour' and we were able to complete grade 2 and grade 2/3 winter climbs.  We were also blessed with exceptional weather (although a little short on snow!) entirely devoid of any precipitation and with clear views from the tops on all but the last of the climbs.
