Friday 21st February

Our last day took us back to Aonach Mor.

From the top of the cable car we walked up the valley of Allt Daim on the eastern side of Aonach Mor to reach the base of our climb..  'Golden Oldie' (a grade 2 winter climb) where we donned our gear.

Dave cheerfully gives Pauline a hand with her harness.

The ground soon steepened and we found ourselves using our axes a lot more than on our previous climbs.

Anna secures a belay and contemplates the next pitch.

A few moments rest on a comfortable ledge and a rare spot of sunshine!

Eventually the route became quite exposed with a narrow rocky ridge to be negotiated.

After a previously extremely dry week, although there was still no precipitation, the relative humidity had clearly increased as we first encountered rock coated in hoar frost.

A cloudier day, but with plenty of atmosphere!

Nearing the top of the ridge.

At last the top of the climb was reached and a welcome breather on more more secure ground!

A short further climb took us to the summit of Aonach Mor (1221m) from which we struck north and back down to the top of the cable car.

So ended a wonderful week in which we were all surprised at what we were able to achieve.

Our thanks to Chris Ensoll of the Rock for such a great time... and to Anna, Colin, Sarah and Dave who also gave generously of their time (and patience) in leading us and keeping us safe!
