Our objective was the summit Stob Coire nan Lochan (1115m) but by climbing the Dorsal Arête (in the right of this picture) from the left hand base of the arête where two climbers can be seen). A grade 2 winter climb. |
Today we set out from
central Glen Coe to walk up between two of the Three Sisters to Coire nan Lochan. Again a lack of snow, and just a few icy patches until we reached the lochans.

A steep snow slope had to be negotiated first to reach the base of the arête but we soon soon climbing on the snow covered rock. Here Pauline waits patiently as our lead climber works ahead and secures a belay point. |

At last, following a traverse, we reached to top of the arête. |
||
| A steep walk to the top of Stob Coire nan Lochan (1115m) did not cause much trouble. | ||
| The descent to the west side of the top, however, was very
steep and our way down from the western col involved a long steep walk
down a snow gulley.
Our teams of 3 remained roped together and we used every vestige of concentration to place our feet securely and keep our ropes taut. |

A clear but dull day eventually gave way to a little late afternoon sunshine. The frozen lochans can be clearly seen in the foreground. |
