| With fine weather in prospect we set out to walk up the Allt a Mhuilinn valley to the Mountain Rescue Post and hut to the North of the summit of Ben Nevis. | |||||

| Having reached snow ( at last!) we fitted our crampons and roped in groups of 3 we began to make our way up the slope. | |||||
| For most of us this was our first experience of climbing with ropes and it proved to be 'interesting'. We began to learn some very basic lessons in working as a team, moving in unison and 'looking out' for each other. | |||||
| Eventually the top of Carn Dearg was in sight.
A welcome brief rest was enjoyed at the top.

| The summit was now clearly in reach although a further 2km walk and 120m ascent would be necessary. | |||||
